"So many questions, where do I start?"

You know what you want done, but now what? How do you pick the right contractor for the job? What questions should you ask to make sure you hired a qualified professional? How much should my project cost? What licenses should a contractor have? Do I need a permit for what I want done? There are so many questions, and where do you find the right answers?

Right here. We pay it forward as much as we can, because we have been fortunate enough to learn the noble trade of construction. Construction is one of the most important industries in the world. Without it, we all do not have our most basic needs met- shelter, clean water, safety, education... Without the construction industry other industries would not exist. You cannot have a banking industry without banks, you would not have gasoline to drive without gas stations, and so on.

We do our best to answer the most asked questions below and inform you of questions you should be asking. If you have always wanted to learn more about construction, including how to fix and maintain your home/office, sign up for our "Construction Instructions" post and vlog.  We share self-empowering DIY information and the latest questions and techniques you can use to solve your own projects.

We charge $55 per hour, or $400 for the day per laborer.  Jobs that take longer than 2 weeks will go through our Design-Build Process to ensure you only pay for the work that is done, not a penny more.

We offer additional discounts for first-responders, teachers, and military personnel. We are extremely grateful for your service.

BABs Construction taps into the latest technologies to make sure you see your remodeled space in 3D; before we take down a single wall or touch a spec of dirt. Not only does our process let you be certain about the outcome, but our estimate is more accurate because our measurement methods are precise within 1/8th of an inch. We utilize BIM (Building Information Modeling) and LIDAR (3D-Scanning) to create your dream on screen first. Changing a 3D model is a lot less money than changing a space that is built. The models are so capable that you can change the color, texture, material and size within seconds. We live in 3D; your construction plans should be too. Anyone that you are hiring to perform work on your home or office, should carry the following insurance policies:

  1. General Liability: This is for protection from any unintentional damage or accidents a contractor causes on your property.
  2. Commercial Auto: Because of the distances a contractor must travel to meet the needs of customers, this is an important policy. In short, this policy is meant to help pay for any costs related to auto injuries, property damage and collisions to non/underinsured motorists, rental vehicles, and towing.
  3. Worker's Compensation: This coverage is required by law, because historically construction can be a dangerous occupation. It protects employers from liability if a worker is injured or becomes ill while performing their job. The injured party can depend on medical coverage, lost wages, rehabilitation, and more. These cases are taken very seriously and thoroughly investigated to make sure the injured party was acting appropriately and not using illegal substances or getting injured on purpose. If the GC does not carry workers comp for their employees, you the owner could be held responsible.
  4. Contractor's Professional Liability: Also called Contractors Errors and Omissions, this coverage is not mandatory but a policy you will want your hired firm to have. This coverage protects the value of the work that a contractor performs, if it is damaged due to incorrect workmanship.

Taxes on services has been a pain point for years, as some states are beginning to require certain business sectors to charge tax on certain services. According to this site, construction services in Utah should be taxed, but they do not expand on this nor offer additional links to research the matter further. The best thing you can do as the owner and the improved real estate, is consult with your CPA to make sure you are covered in case of an audit.
